In 2017, Royce & Associates signed the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), which is considered the world’s top proponent of responsible investment. The PRI seeks to understand the investment implications of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors and to support its international network of investor signatories in incorporating these factors into their investment and ownership decisions.

Since its inception in 2006, the PRI has sought to raise awareness with professional investors across the globe about how to increase the level of transparency in their activities and capabilities of its signatories.

At Royce, our ultimate goal in all of our activities is to deliver the best investment outcomes for our investors, and we believe that incorporating ESG factors into our methodology is an enhancement to our process.

The ESG process is an inclusionary procedure designed to enhance returns. With it, we examine the industries in which our holdings are found and consider the environmental and social factors that affect them.

As signatories of the PRI, we join many other investment firms around the globe that have pledged to incorporate ESG factors into their research and due diligence process. PRI’s goals are closely aligned with our own rigorous standards as we strive to invest in companies with sustainable and differentiated competitive advantages.

By integrating relevant governance and sustainability factors into our investment process, and effectively engaging with companies and their management teams around these principles, we aspire to better manage risk, enhance returns for our investors and improve global corporate sustainability.
