On September 18, 2024, Citywire.com’s Algy Hall penned an article, “Female Elite Investors and where to find them,” which gave a list of 21 female portfolio managers who work on equity funds. Hall rooted his piece in a study which suggested that “women may be naturally better at investing than men. Among the reasons given for this phenomenon, which has been observed in both retail and professional investors, is the possibility that women are less afflicted by certain behavioural biases that dent investment returns. Specifically, men are thought to be more susceptible to overconfidence and more likely to trade when sitting put in an investment would be a better option. What this seems to boil down to is that women may be better than men at keeping a cool head and sticking with a well-considered investment process when high stakes trigger high emotions.”

Read the piece.

Of the 251 women whose portfolios Citywire tracks, 21 are currently categorized as elite, based on risk-adjusted performance. The piece also noted that “Women account for just 12.5% of portfolio managers globally and are more likely to be assigned to run funds targeting niche areas such as small caps and emerging markets. So it is with our Elite Investors.”
